Definitions for the Good Choice and Best Choice

For personal care, beauty and household products:

Good Choice
This is a good choice to transition to because the product is eco-friendly and, if applicable, *cruelty –free. The manufacturing company may still be affiliated with a parent or suppliers that are not. Overall, it is a better choice.

Best Choice
In our opinion, this product is the near “holy grail” because it is both eco-friendly and, if applicable,  cruelty –free * and is not affiliated with a parent or suppliers that are not. In some cases, in addition to performing as well as the comparator product, it also may have a bonus attribute or benefit that the comparator does not.

* as described in the Reference section of this website.

For Food:

Good Choice
This is a good choice to transition to because the product is natural* and, if applicable, is practicing under humane farming standards or meets the Humane Farm Animal Care program standards and so is part of the Certified Humane® Program (see http://www.certifiedhumane.org/ for more information). In addition, the company may be locally based and may be following other sustainable or fair trade practices. Overall, it is a better choice.

Best Choice
In our opinion, this product is the near “holy grail” because it is natural and there are no animal ingredients used. In addition, the company may be locally based and may be following other sustainable or fair trade practices.
