Make holiday dish washing less of a chore with this natural, fun-shaped but strong cleaning tool that is an alternative to steel wool use. Shaped like a piece of Italian pasta, it is made from natural hemp burlap casing that is stuffed with a biodegradable, cellulose sponge. Hemp is considered a sustainable choice of materials since it is an abundant, fast-growing plant. It is a cleaning tool completely free of dyes, bleaches and anything artificial. The materials are all natural so it is fully biodegradable and also compostable. It’s plump feel and material covering is soft enough for hands, delicate china pieces and even non-stick coatings1 but tough enough to tackle the remnants of baked foods on glass, stainless steel and aluminum surfaces. It’s softened square shape makes it great for cleaning corners and crevices. The woven hemp-based fiber is strong enough to withstand vigorous scrub sessions. It’s also top-rack dishwasher safe and can be sterilized in the microwave2 while damp or boiled to ensure a germ-free use during its life cycle which, by the way, far outlasts the traditional steel wool scrubber. Lastly, it’s use is not just limited to the kitchen. And, unlike many loofah alternatives, it dries quickly and so does not allow bacteria and mold to fester. It’s a worthwhile purchase priced just above a regular sponge but yielding much more use.
1The company recommends always testing with light pressure to see if surfaces may scratch. Rinse thoroughly before and after use.
2Recommended microwave time for sterilization is 1 minute.
