When it comes to kids and nail polish – most of us cringe -both because of a possible mess as well as (and more importantly!) the potential to be exposed to toxins. Traditional nail polish formulas contain a cocktail of harmful chemicals (though many claim to be 5-free, 4-free, etc.) and require the use of even more chemicals for removal. The Brush-on/Peel-off (BoPo) polishes marketed to children sound fun from a marketing standpoint, and spare the need for polish remover. However, because the polish peels, it can do so in a child’s mouth. And, as we all know children love to eat with their hands and are not going to suddenly stop the habit of putting their fingers in their mouth! If the polish contains any artificial dyes, acrylics or fragrances, this is not the best choice. This nail polish color comes from vegetable pigments and, with organic, non-GMO ingredients is also completely edible. And, it is produced cruelty-free and with no animal-derived ingredients. The color range is limited, but a worthwhile sacrifice given the clean ingredients and natural flavors of Barley Grass Green, Beet Red and Sour Carrot Orange. It removes with just soap, water and a little scrubbing. So, it lasts for the day until your child bathes. The founders assure that even with these great organic flavors, kids are not more apt to putting their fingers in their mouths – but if they do, parents can rest assured. While this is certainly not a necessary personal care product if your kids are interested in nail painting, this definitely helps to put a parents’ mind at ease! (And adults may be intrigued too…)
